The drama will play for limited, three-performance run, and will be presented in the Owen Center Theater on the ASU-Beebe campus.

"Talk-back" Session

There will be a "talk-back" question and answer session with the director and cast after the Friday, November 16 closing performance.

Tickets and Seating

Seating is unreserved/first-come, and the theater will open 30 minutes prior to curtain.

Ticket prices are $5 for general admission; $2 for seniors (over 55).  Free for ASU-Beebe students, faculty and staff.

About the Play

ASU-Beebe’s Theater Program continues the ’07-’08 season of plays with our production of Two Rooms by Lee Blessing. Lee Blessing is one of America ’s most celebrated contemporary playwrights.

Blessing's plays have been performed on and off Broadway, in London’s West End, and around the world, and include: A Walk in the Woods, Thief River, A Body of Water, Whores, Cobb, Chesapeake, and Eleemosynary.

His work has received many awards including,

  • The American Theater Critics Circle Award

  • L.A. Drama Critics Award

  • The Great American Play Award

Lee Blessing's Two Rooms won Time Magazine's "Best Play of 1988" award and continues today to confront the global issue of terrorism from the most honest perspective possiblethe personal.

Two Rooms has brought audiences to tears, applause and ultimately, questions. What is the role of personal sacrifice in light of a greater public need? Where can we find hope in an increasingly dangerous world?

About the Cast

This production features ASUB theater majors Hali Free as Lainie Wells, Brittany Christian as Ellen Van Oss and Justin Johnson as Michael Wells. Professor Don Eller rounds out the cast as Walker Harris. The production is directed by Professor Bruce Cohen, ASUB’s new Director of Theater.

Plot Summary

When Michael Wells, an American professor in Beirut, is taken hostage by an unspecified local faction, his wife Lainie responds by stripping his home office bare of furniture and decorations, creating a space in which she can empathize with him. In the midst of pressure from the media and the government, Lainie fights to maintain hope for her husband's safe return.
